Handfasting

The origin of ‘tying the knot’. A Pagan/Celtic tradition where ribbons or cloth are draped over the couple’s clasped hands and then tied into a knot symbolising the bringing together of the two hearts in a union of strength and unity forever.

Family or friends can drape the ribbons if desired.

Unity Candle

Symbolic of the joining of the couple in marriage, as well as the joining of their two original families. The couple keeps the lit candle – enclosed within a lantern – on their table during the reception, and takes the lantern home as a memento.

Rose ceremony

The couple can choose to present roses – real, silk or button hole – to the parents as a way of showing appreciation for their support.

Wishing jar/book

Each guest writes a thought or message to the couple on provided tags, which they then tie to a tree/ suitcase/ decorative element. These tags are placed in a jar or books as a memento of the day, which the couple can open and read at a later date.

Sealed love letters

The couple will write love letters to each other before the wedding which they will seal in an envelope. They will seal the letters with wax and vow not to open them until an anniversary of their choice.

Ceremonial parchment

Each partner signs a keepsake parchment before their chosen witnesses, which is then presented to the newlyweds.

Time capsule

Invite guests to bring letters, photos, newspaper articles and objects for a time capsule to be opened by your future selves, or your child on their 18th birthday. Guests can write letters to the future, and you can add mementos from your day – then open the capsule decades later and enjoy the memories that come flooding back.

Treeplanting

A tree of your choice is planted by you and your partner/loved ones/family members to commemorate the occasion. Each type of tree has a different meaning, and the time of year that it blooms can be timed with the month of your special day, so you can watch it flourish every year as time goes by.

Naming ribbon

A touching ritual that welcomes a new family member into the fold. Guests at a naming ceremony - or family members – form a circle, and are joined together by ribbon that creates a thread of connection between everyone and the child, before the group officially gives them their forever name.

Custom elements

I will make suggestions for some fun, meaningful and unusual elements we could add to your ceremony - furry friend ring bearers, performances from loved ones, dedications, costumes, incorporating references to your favourite things. It’s about doing things your way, and making the your personalities shine through.
